God Created the Earth and Us: Finding Healing and Health Through Nature

God Created the Earth and Humanity With Purpose

The Bible opens with a powerful declaration of God’s creative authority:

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1

God did not create the earth randomly or without intention. Every part of creation was designed with order, beauty, and purpose. When humanity was formed, God placed people directly within His creation—not above it or apart from it, but connected to it.

This biblical truth reminds us that humans are not separate from the natural world. We are part of God’s creation, living within what He lovingly made to sustain life.

Humans as God’s Creation Formed From the Earth

Scripture gives us an intimate picture of how humanity was created:

“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.”
Genesis 2:7

Humans were formed from the earth itself and given life by God’s breath. This connection between creation and humanity is deeply significant. Our bodies were designed to live in harmony with the world God made—sunlight, fresh air, movement, and natural rhythms are all part of His design.

As a breast cancer survivor, exploring healing and praying for healing are natural. Understanding that I am God’s creation helps me see nature not as optional, but as essential to well-being.

A Biblical View of Nature and Human Health

From a Christian perspective, nature is more than scenery—it is provision. God created the earth to support human life physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Spending time outdoors can reduce stress, improve mood, and support physical health. There are innumerable examples of the benefits of natural elements to health. Sunlight for vitamin D. Walking on the earth for grounding. Eating natural foods. While science now confirms these benefits, Scripture shows us that God already knew what His people would need to thrive.

Nature reflects God’s order, faithfulness, and care. When we step outside, we are engaging with His creation in a way that restores both body and soul.

Finding Healing in Nature as Creations of God

Healing in nature does not replace prayer—it often deepens it. As we walk among trees, feel the warmth of the sun, or listen to the wind, we are reminded that the same God who created the earth created us with care and purpose. I don’t think anyone will deny the restorative effects of a weekend camping or a few days at the beach. I plan this year to explore the many ways to bring the healing elements of God’s creation into every day life.

Let nature become a quiet testimony of God’s goodness, offering peace, renewal, and hope.
